One School, One Book

Hello Oracle Families, We are excited for you and your family to be part of our fourth One School, One Book shared reading. DCES is thrilled to provide one free copy of Almost Super by Marion Jensen to each family in our school. The oldest elementary sibling will receive a copy of the book for their family to enjoy. Over the next several weeks, we ask that you and your family read this book each evening. Our goals are to help families enjoy the fun of sharing a book together and to get the whole school community talking about the same book. A schedule will be sent with the book to keep everyone on track. Each week will have different chapters to read or listen to. Read the chapters aloud as a family, or listen to an audio recording of each chapter read by one of our own staff members. Use this link to listen to the story. .
Almost Super is a great read for families, inviting you to discuss what truly makes a person “super.” Trust, respect, kindness, creativity, understanding, and forgiveness turn out to be stronger than breathing fire or shooting water out of your hands. We hope you will share in this fantastic adventure that encourages realizing your full potential and being the best that you can be. The story is written at a middle-elementary reading level and includes vocabulary that will be above the level of our younger students. That’s okay. Building rich vocabulary and the action-packed adventure will delight all ages. We hope you will continue reading stories aloud to your child after this activity. Spending just 15-20 minutes per night reading with your student will make a huge difference in their success at school. ENJOY! We will have a Family Night to celebrate the conclusion of the book on Thursday, March 6 from 6:30-7:30. Mark your calendars and plan to celebrate with us!
